The food of the future

In company with friends, we often find ourselves talking about our favourite dish or discussing what we most like to eat. It may be that, at such times, in a not too distant future, even Italians will find themselves talking about insects.

Although the idea might make the many turn up their noses, the idea that insects will be the food of the future is nothing new. In some parts of the world, they are already consumed regularly and are considered real delicacies.

In Thailand, for example, fried crickets are a favourite food, and apparently, they taste similar to popcorn. In other parts of the world, people eat caterpillars, bedbugs, dragonflies and silkworms. In European countries these dishes still seem taboo, but we cannot rule out the possibility that we will soon start finding them in restaurants or supermarkets.
