In Bologna, the companies Sgam and MyMenu have signed the first “Charter of fundamental rights of digital city workers”. Sgam and MyMenu employ about 140 delivery people out of the 500 who home-deliver meals in Bologna.
However, the other big players in the industry of cooked food home delivery did not participate: from Deliveroo to Foodora, and from Glovo to JustEat.
The city mayor called on every consumer: “Now you have the chance to order your pizza from those who don’t exploit people.” An invitation to boycott those who didn’t sign.
The city government will post a list of those who don’t respect the rights of the bike workers, such as a fair hourly wage, the right not to deliver by bicycle in case of bad weather and the obligation to have insurance.
