The story of Cupid and Psyche

In ancient Greece there lived a beautiful girl named Psyche. All men fell in love with her the moment they saw her, even kings and princes. Venus, the goddess of beauty, did not appreciate any competition and soon became jealous of Psyche.

Therefore, she decided to send down to Earth her son, Eros, who could make anyone fall in love by using his magic arrows, to make poor Psyche fall in love with the ugliest man in existence. But things didn’t work out that way.

As soon as he saw Psyche, Eros fell madly in love with her and asked her to marry him, in defiance of his mother. In order not to make Venus jealous, Eros never let his wife see him and always remained in the dark. One evening, Psyche, curious to see his face at last, lit a candle but the hot wax fell on Eros, who ran away.
